In-Character Information
Name : Rhys (Rhyperior)
Game/Series: POKEMON
Canon Point: During HGSS, after Green's travel to Sinnoh.
Age & Grade Level: 20 || College Level Freshman
Personality:
Rhys is a gentle Rhyperior. He's generally a relaxed guy, not letting anything get him too roiled up. He takes it all in stride, focusing instead on the good things. Not to say he ignores the bad, he just. Doesn't let it bother him. Its a part of his training. He meditates every morning, and every night. It helps him keep a level head.
Some might call Rhys a samurai. He can certainly look the part, and in the romantic storytelling kind of way, it does fit. He is ever calm, even in the most pressing of situations, and its only in battle that he will ever seem to lash out. Even then, its always with clear focus. When he isn't fighting, training, or meditating, he likes to spend his time with his team (or with Grandfather when back at the lab), generally just enjoying their company, or taking part in their silly antics. Just because you are calm, doesn't mean you can't have fun.
And have fun he will. He is no stranger to Char and Nyx's pranks and plots, when the rest of the team is around, its hard not to get into a little trouble. He'll always be the one to point out if things are going from "Fun" to "hurting" territory, though. He doesn't see causing pain as a good joke.
He's also a writer, generally of poetry, often haiku. It helps with the samurai image (I'M SORRY, THE MUN DOESN'T KNOW ANYTHING EXCEPT THE ROMANTIC IMAGE OF THE SAMURAI). On a spring day, you may find him sitting, in his human form of course (it's hard to hold a pencil with big holes in your massive hands), out on a field, or in a forest, just writing the poetry of nature. Not always the best poetry, but he tries.
He loves the company of all of Green's team, but while not showing it, can sometimes be a little envious of Nyx's position. He had been a strong part of Green's team until she came along. The way things currently were, however, the "main team" is not often brought together in one place, so even if it did bother him to a great extent, the lack of a "main team" ever going out would definitely lessen the blow.
Outside of Green team, he holds a jovial attitude with people, if they hold one with him. He likes being friends with people, but if someone doesn't want to be polite with him, he'll only deal with them for so long before he just goes on a “You are nothing and I won't pay attention to you” crusade.
If Rhys hasn't meditated, he begins to fall into some old habits that he's tried to lose. Some people have their morning coffee, he has his morning meditation. For the most part, he may just seem as if he's having an off day. If someone particularly troublesome reveals themselves, however, he will get snappy, and very violent. You wouldn't like him when he's angry.
Given a situation that surprises him, one that he can't quickly come up with an answer for, Rhys will immediately want to take the time to meditate on it for an answer. That is not usually a possibility, so he will stutter a little, and become somewhat reserved.
Backstory:
Rhys was bred in the Safari Zone, hatched from an egg by careful hands, and placed into the 'wild' of the zone only when he had matured enough to fight on his own. This wasn't long, he was a tough little Rhyhorn, eager for battle. And the Safari Zone was full of other Pokemon, ripe for the fighting.
However, most of the other Pokemon had been in the Safari Zone much longer than he had, and faced their fair number of rocks over the head (Or mud from the less harsh trainers.) Rhys made a habit of picking out the smaller Pokemon, Nidoran, Venonat, and the occasional Doduo. Life was tough for any little thing that made it into “Rhys' corner.” A few trainers even tried to aim for a catch in the little patch of taller grass. They never left without a scare, or a few bruises if they dared throw a safari ball at this Rhyhorn.
But such a tyranny doesn't go unnoticed. A few of the larger Pokemon saw what was happening, and weren't going to let it stand. Rhys found himself cornered by a trio of Tauros and a particularly angry Kangaskhan. He glared fiercely at them all, but they easily intimidated him against a wall. They stopped there, and through their lines emerged a scarred Dragonair. The Dragonair didn't threaten him at all, her crew did that well enough with their stares. She made it clear, however, that they didn't like what he was doing. “We've got a good thing going here. However much food we want, trainers coming through with extra treats. You're making life difficult for others, and we won't let that stand.” Point made, the five left.
But Rhys didn't stop. Within a day he was back to his habits. A day later, his guests returned. This time, there were no words. They didn't corner him, they just fought. Rhys was tough, but not tough enough to face five much stronger Pokemon. It took all of a minute and a half, and he was down. Dragonair slithered up to him, bringing her face close to his. “You will stop. You've gone too far, and we won't hesitate to do this again.” With a final kick from a Tauros, Rhys fainted.
When he awoke, he knew better. He laid on the ground, looking over the plains, out to the water. The sun was setting, the Spearow were making their last calls. He saw the serenity of the Safari Zone. When he finally got up, he knew he had changed, and he only hoped it was for the better. It took a while for any other Pokemon to approach him, but eventually, he showed that he was a new Rhyhorn. He began getting water at the main lake, instead of in puddles and small ponds, and would make small chat with the other Pokemon there. He never did see Dragonair again, but the other four even grew to have a friendly, if distant, relationship. It was a nice, calm life.
All that changed the day he was caught by an up and going Champion To Be, however. A cocky trainer out of Pallet Town grooved into the Safari Zone, and began a search for some tough Pokemon. Now, being a kinder Pokemon hadn't kept Rhys from having a few fights here and there, but it was all in fun, so he was ready. This trainer already had a number of pokemon, but when he saw the way this Rhyhorn could take a rock to the face, the soul in its eyes, and how it moved, thinking each step through and moving with a fluidity (slow, but fluid) that most rock types can't manage, he looked at his party, and saw a little room for him. He was officially named Rhys, and became a part of the Green Team family.
It was during the fight with Bruno during the Elite Four challenge that Rhys evolved into Rhydon, after a tough battle against his Machamp that was just barely successful. This meant that most of the rest of the matches were spent on the bench. He was glad to watch, however, and proud of his trainer, and the rest of the team, when they made it to Champion. While he won't admit it openly (instead choosing the ridicule that the rest of his team sends their way, for it is a fun rivalry), he was just as proud when Red came and took the title right from them.
After a few years, Green found himself to be the Gym Leader of Viridian City. It was decided that Rhys could use a little more power behind him. A Protector was found, and given to the Rhyhorn to wear. (smudging the lines of the game rules a little now, sorry). In a span of seconds, light began to glow from the protector, and then from the Pokemon himself. It was a weird change, suddenly having bulky armor attached to him. But he was a Rhyperior now, one of the toughest of the tough. They did well as a gym team, but it seemed Green wasn't content to sit around. He went off to the Academy, and Rhys was one of the pokemon left in charge of taking all challengers. Few made it, under the combined attack of Green's Second bench.
When Green decided to go and travel Sinnoh, it was time for Rhys to hit the road as well, since most of the main team would be busy with their school work (it was assumed). He was glad to be on the road again, as it allowed him to see new and wonderful sights. It also gave him plenty of time to catch up with his trainer. During the Evolution Party that was held, he heard even more about the good times (and tough ones) That were being had at the school. Green had shared some stories, but hearing more from the other Pokemon was a final push to get him to consider enlisting himself.
And so, some many months later, after talking with the Professor a good number of times about the subject, he decided it was time. He packed a couple Super Potions, threw some berries in a bag, and took the Bullet Train and SS Aqua to Final Destination City, intent upon joining his favorite gym leaderMisty for some learning. Or fighting. Probably some of both.
Anything Else?:
Level: 70 | Nature: Gentle
Moveset: Earthquake | Megahorn | Stone Edge | Thunder Fang
Final Smash (If allowed to have a special fifth move): Rock Wrecker
In human form, he is generally seen in yukata, or the school's uniform. He does have a suit of custom samurai armour, thanks to his Protector, but he only wears it when nessecary. He lacks holes in his palms in human form (though he does have small circular markings), and instead wields two large pistols.
In-Character 1st person writing sample (journal):
Char tried to burn my again at the party. I don't think he quite gets the concept that I'm made out of rocks. Oh well, a couple more light knocks to the head aren't making him any worse for the wear, and he gets just as much fun out of wrestling around as I do. Bulba is friendly as ever, and his back flower is quite beautiful. He allowed me to write a few poems while watching him have fun in the fields outside the city. [Insert posted poems, Matt can't write poetry for shit.]
I was surprised to see Nyx's new form while she was here as well. I have always been taller, but... she got even shorter. I'm sure she isn't too happy about it, especially with the cracks from Char, but it is amusing to see. The poor girl. She's probably getting over it already, along with that hangover.
Green's eyes shone when he saw the main team again. I think he misses being at the school. I Can't blame him, the stories they tell. Perhaps I will join them some day. Only time will tell.
In-Character 3rd person writing post:
The Graveler simply wouldn't move. It wasn't particularly large for a Graveler, it was just that this tunnel was rather small. And it obviously wanted to fight. Rhys knew this wouldn't be a problem. "This is your last warning to move." He said, scooping some nearby rubble into his arms. "I'm sure you know what a Rhyperior is capable of."
"If I was planning on going somewhere, don't you think I'd be there already?"
"Very well." The taller Pokemon stepped forward, aiming both of his arms, and unleashing an unrelenting wave over the offending pokemon. The boulder was all talk, and the blast caused him to turn tail and run. "I hope you weren't planning on catching that one, Green. It didn't seem like it would train well, anyways. Even worse than Char."
